Two Independent Samples

چکیده

One of the most commonly used statistical techniques is the comparison of two independent samples of measurement data. More specifically, the comparison of the means of two independent samples. This is often the basis for making a decision to go with a particular method, process or supplier. The validity of the procedure hinges on the random selection of items for each sample. The correctness of the subsequent decision rests with the stability of the processes that produce items that can be selected for the samples.

The Impact of Morphological Awareness on Iranian Pre-University Students’ Listening Transcription

Morphological Awareness (henceforth: MA), defined as the ability to understand the morphemic structure of the words, has been reported to affect various aspects of second language performance including reading comprehension ability, spelling performance, etc. Yet, the concept has been far less treated with reference to l2 listening transcription. Thus, against this background, this study ai...

Distribution Free Confidence Intervals for Quantiles Based on Extreme Order Statistics in a Multi-Sampling Plan

Extended Abstract. Let Xi1 ,..., Xini   ,i=1,2,3,....,k  be independent random samples from distribution $F^{alpha_i}$،  i=1,...,k, where F is an absolutely continuous distribution function and $alpha_i>0$ Also, suppose that these samples are independent. Let Mi,ni and  M'i,ni  respectively, denote the maximum and minimum of the ith sa...

Determining the sample size required to compare vegetation and soil characteristics in two independent groups using effect size

Extended Abstract Background and objectives: One of the important steps in assessing rangeland vegetation is determining the sample size. Adequacy of sample size and its determination is always one of the main concerns of rangeland vegetation analyzer. There are two general methods for determining the sample size in rangeland science: graphic and statistical methods. In this study, the sample...

Theory and Application of an Economic Performance Measure of Risk

Homm and Pigorsch (2012a) use the Aumann and Serrano index to develop a new economic performance measure (EPM), which is well known to have advantages over other measures. In this paper, we extend the theory by constructing a one-sample confidence interval of EPM, and construct confidence intervals for the difference of EPMs for two independent samples. We also derive the asymptotic distributio...

Comment on 'Evaluation of the gene-specific dye bias in cDNA microarray experiments'

In their paper in Bioinformatics, Martin-Magniette et al. (2005) recommend complete dye-swap1 designs for both direct and indirect dual label microarray experiments. These recommendations contradict our previous recommendations (Dobbin et al., 2003) for designing experiments, where we suggested minimizing or eliminating the use of dye-swap arrays. We show here that the recommendations of Martin...
